SUMMARY

Edmund (Jessica's victim from the opening scene) sits in jail and explains to his lawyer, Ray (D.W. Moffett), that Jessica lured him to the abandoned warehouse and suddenly got rough with him. As Edmund is escorted down the prison hallway, he passes Jessica and whispers, "I know your little dirty side, I know you. You're me!"

Jessica questions why Ray would represent someone like Edmund, and he explains that he golfs with Edmund's father, the owner of a pharmaceutical company. Ray turns to Mike and alludes to some disastrous mistake in Mike's past.

Ray pulls Jessica aside and warns her that Mike has been known to "go off the deep end." Ray and Jessica argue about Edmund until Ray brings up a memorable sexual encounter he shared with Jessica and wonders why it never happened again.

Later, Jessica enjoys a meal with John on his patio.

ANALYSIS

As this clip begins, we are introduced to a different side of Edmund than previously seen; while the film's opening lines included Edmund's comparison of Jessica to a frightened animal while he held her at knifepoint, here he calmly explains that he and Jessica were actually on a date when this happened. If this is the case, it is easy to sympathize with a man who got "you're weird"ed by a woman who seemed willing to play dirty. If nothing else, Twisted is already a valuable public service announcement for the necessity of establishing a "safety word" when getting kinky.

Fortunately for Edmund's case, his reasonable behavior embodies his alleged innocence, except when he is hissing lecherously in Jessica's face and announcing that they are the same person. In fact, Ray cannot be blamed for getting so defensive in response to Jessica's questioning, although if he was a better lawyer he might instead chase after Edmund and advise him to play it cool instead of acting like such a creep. On the other hand, Ray is clearly talented enough to avoid scrutiny by shifting the topic to Mike's checkered past for absolutely no reason.

Additionally, Ray even manages to change the subject from Mike's checkered past to offering Jessica sex via the mind-bending line, "Sometimes nabbing the bad guy is the easy part... the hard part is learning how to relax." Even Jessica can't believe it, as she can only respond by staring at him and waiting for the next scene to start. When it does, Jessica finds herself wrapping up this eventful day by sharing a meal with her mentor, who offers his insight so openly and with such a huge grin on his face that he is instantly the viewer's number one suspect.
